Legislation introduced to designate Route 66 as National Historic Trail
Legislation has been introduced at the U.S. Capitol that would designate Route 66 as a national historic trail. Stretching from Chicago, Illinois to Santa Monica, California, Route 66 is more than 3,800 kilometres long and crosses through eight states. Route 66 runs for more than 643 kilometres through Tulsa and Oklahoma City and Oklahoma is home to the longest drivable stretch of ‘America’s Main Street’, “which earned its name from connecting small businesses and rural communities with visitors from around the country”. In Oklahoma Route 66 makes its way past charming towns, museums, roadside diners, and quirky attractions. Take a nostalgic ride on Route 66 and let the golden age of the road whisper to you through brightly coloured neon signs, quaint motels, drive-in movie theatres and friendly small towns in Oklahoma.
