Alaska’s first-ever Nordic Spa is now open at Alyeska Resort, about 40 minutes south of the city. The spa features indoor and outdoor hydrotherapy pools, a signature sauna, and an onsite bistro for dining and drinks.
Anchorage’s newest hotel, Aloft Anchorage, opens in May and caters to both leisure and business traveler’s. The hotel is located in Anchorage’s midtown, in close proximity to restaurants, parks, and trails.
The Westmark Anchorage is reopening in May after a two-year hiatus: The 14-floor downtown property featuring balconies for every room, glorious views of the Chugach Mountains and Cook Inlet, and easy access to top trails, dining, shopping, and entertainment.
The Marriott Anchorage Downtown recently completed a top-to-bottom revitalisation, upgrading all guest rooms, public spaces and dining areas.

Downtown’s Anchorage Museum tells the story of Alaska through art, history and cultures. A new exhibit coined “The Place I Call Home” reflects the wild spaces and beauty that emerge from Anchorage through the eyes of the photographer. The exhibit is a continuation of a series of programs titled “Black Lives in Alaska: Journey, Justice, Joy” and connects to the Rasmuson Foundation project Black in Alaska.
The Alaska Native Heritage Center has vastly expanded its collection thanks to a donation of more than 1,700 cultural objects from the recently closed Wells Fargo museum in Anchorage. Besides the new artifacts, the heritage centre features demonstrations, life-size traditional dwelling structures, and an Alaska Native-owned gift shop featuring the work of Indigenous artists.
The Anchorage Golf Course is a wooded wonderland with 6,600 yards of golfing terrain and views of the Chugach Mountains and Denali. In July, the scenic course will host the state’s first United States Golf Association championship – the 60th USGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championship.
The Coho Rodeo Derby is a new fishing tournament taking place in August at Ship Creek, Anchorage’s downtown urban fishery. While the derby is just one day, the silver salmon run can last all the way until the shoulder season in September. It follow the king salmon-centric Slam’n Salm’n Derby, held annually in June.
