What’s New in Utah Fall 2022
Utah’s pie-ala-road
Visitors looking to take a road trip this Fall will find a sweeter way to savour Utah’s scenic landscape on the state’s pie-ala-road. The Utah Pie Trail explores southwestern Utah one slice at a time at five stops along a highway loop, including: Volcano pie in Veyo; Thunderberry pie in Mt. Carmel Junction; Sour Cream Raisin pie outside Bryce Canyon National Park; personal-sized pies sold in Capital Reef National Park made from the fruit grown in its own orchards; and Pickle pie (and Pinto Bean pie!) in Bicknell. While visitors could travel the Utah Pie Trail in a day, it’s best to split this drive into two or more segments so there is time left over to not only sample this iconic American dessert, but also the national and state parks nearby. Where the deer and the antelope roam
One of the best ways to experience Utah’s famed Great Salt Lake is with a visit to Antelope Island State Park, less than an hour from Salt Lake City. Autumn is arguably the best time of year to visit as wildlife can be seen moving around the island, including one of the nation’s largest and oldest public bison herds. The annual Bison Roundup, which takes place this year from October 29-November 3, is an incredible event to witness as hundreds of horseback riders round up nearly 700 bison for their yearly health checkup. Open to the public, visitors will have a true Western experience whether participating in the herding as a rider or watching from a safe distance. Learn more
Overnight in an Indigenous dwelling
Although made famous by Hollywood as a backdrop for classic Westerns and blockbuster films like Forrest Gump and Mission Impossible 2, Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park is best experienced with the guidance of the Indigenous Peoples who have called this land home for time immemorial. Simpson’s Trailhandler Tours is Navajo-owned and operated, and offers visitors a glimpse into the rich culture of the families who live in this corner of Southeast Utah, including an all-inclusive camping experience in a traditional Indigenous dwelling called a Hogan. Jeep, hiking and photography tours explore natural landmarks, petroglyphs, ancient ruins and cliff dwellings; some showcasing cultural demonstrations, a Navajo dinner, and campfire entertainment. Winter warms up at Park City Mountain
As one of Utah’s 15 ski resorts boasting the Greatest Snow on Earth®, and the largest ski resort in the United States, Park City Mountain (Vail Resorts) will open November 18, 2022 for the 2022-23 winter season. New this winter, Vail Resorts will prioritize the guest experience across all its resorts by limiting the number of lift tickets sold daily. A “ski beach” at Canyons Village, stretching from the Red Pine Gondola to the Orange Bubble Express, will enhance the après ski experience with fire pits, heated pavers and soft seating areas, creating a connection to the village’s restaurants and bars. And, most importantly, Park City has joined the Global Sustainable Tourism Council and the Elektron Solar Project that will provide renewable energy for 100% of Park City Mountain’s electric usage by 2023 has broken ground.
