TravelNevada’s sales mission to Australia later this month will see the first US state Governor to visit the country in over seven years. Coinciding with an Economic Trade Mission, Governor Sandoval will join TravelNevada and a host of other tourism organizations from the region on a trade mission in both Melbourne and Sydney.
Accompanying Governor Sandoval will be the team from TravelNevada including the Director of the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Claudia Vecchio, who will lead the sales mission with support from Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, Cirque du Soleil, Caesars Entertainment and Go Tahoe North.
Commenting on the sales mission, Ms Vecchio said, “We’re honored to have Governor Sandoval join us for the Australian tourism events. The Australian market is of great interest to him with Australia being Nevada’s 10th largest market for exports, which were valued at over $104 million in 2015.
For tourism 29.4% (or 375,000 people) of the 1.3 million of the Australian visitors to the US visited the state of Nevada in 2014, an 8% increase year on year from 2013. Nevada is also the fourth most visited state in the US for Australians after California, Hawaii and New York. (Source: Overseas Visitors Report 2014)
“Our sales mission is about connecting with the market that supports us so well with tourism visitation. While Las Vegas continues to be the most popular destination for Australians to visit Nevada visitor trends are showing patterns of Australians branching out beyond the city to enjoy rural Nevada including Highway 50 “The Loneliest Highway in America”, Great Basin National Park, the Gateway to Death Valley National Park, Ghost Towns, Mining Towns, as well-as famous movie sets in the outback or desert regions of Nevada.
These rural hot spots compliment Nevada’s already well renowned icons like Hoover Dam in the south and Lake Tahoe for its skiing in the north.
The TravelNevada sales mission, which Governor Salvador will attend, will showcase a mixture of urban and outback attractions the state has to offer plus a special performance from the Cirque du Soleil’s visiting performers.
Events will be held for key travel trade, media and airline partners: 28 July, 6:30-8:30pm in Melbourne at the Grand Hyatt Hotel and 1 August, 6:30-8:30pm in Sydney at The Museum of Contemporary Art in The Rocks.
